Bryce?

HDT 2022 Day 25, April 25, Monday
Start town of Tropic Alt Route mile 12.3
End Tropic Alt Route mile 34.7, S9 mile 10.8
Miles walked: 22 4

I decide to take the Tropic/Bryce Alternate Route back to the HDT, rather than hoping for a ride 12 miles back to where I left the trail. A short roadwalk out of town leads me to Tropic Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park.

These irregular shaped towers are called hoodoos, and Bryce is known for them.

The route goes past the Queen’s Garden and on up to the Rim Trail, where the views are quite remarkable.

Joining the Under the Rim Trail for the rest of the day, the route winds around down from the canyon rim, in Ponderosa forest, going past several designated campsites, losing views.

Finally, at the end of the day, I rejoin the HOT, and camp in a little corner of forest service land just outside the park.
