My route continues along the North Rim westwards.
An old lookout tower is open to climb, but with high gusting winds, I am content to gaze and not ascend.

From Jacob Lake, the AZT resumes Ponderosa forest. One can observe light scorch marks from a fire on the trunks of older trees.
Soon we are in an old burn, where stands of young aspens grow amid tall Ponderosa. Older aspen might have been wiped out by a fire, but they are one of the first tree species to re-establish after a burn.
