Lasso Loop Trail 2023

Several Socorro area volunteers did finishing work on the 2-ish mile Lasso Loop Trail near the Rodeo Grounds, organized by the New Mexico Tech Bike Club and Socorro Trails. This new trail is created to to support a mountain-bike race scheduled for Sunday, October 29, for NMICL, the New Mexico Interscholastic Cycling League, the NM chapter of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, NICA, which organizes teams of teens to race and ride mountain bikes. Mary, the state director of NMICL, and her family joined us to work on the trail.

Manzano West Side 2023

Fourteen NMVFO volunteers camped at the site of the decommissioned JFK Campground on the west side of the Manzano Mountains for a weekend to improve trails. The first day we went on a long hike up Comanche Trail and cleared downed trees, along with lopping.

We did not manage to get to the crest, and will need to clear a good quantity of trees starting on a later project.

Good food and conversation followed.

The following day we worked on Trigo Trail, and split into 3 teams: lopping, sawing, and grafitti removal. Two teams got as far as the falls.
