NMVFO returned to the South Sandia Crest Trail, with 12 volunteers camping at a meadow at the intersection with Embudito Trail, for a weekend of lopping oak. The Pecos Chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen BCH supported us by hauling equipment and water.
Gambel oak grows thick at this elevation. Here is a before and after.
We had to cut the project short a half-day because of an unexpected wildlife encounter, but we still managed to clear 2.5 miles of South Crest Trail.
