HDT 2022 Day 3, April 3, Sunday Start S1 mile 34.7 of 39.7, Ledge A Campground on Kane Creek End S2 mile 23.8, dirt road at Lockhart Canyon Miles walked: 28.8
The campground ended up being rather noisy through the night, and dogs barking to each other in early morning echo off canyon walls. Walking on with an early start, I do not meet any off-roaders for a few hours, except this one friendly guy I had talked to yesterday.

Past Hurrah Pass we can see the Colorado River once more.

My route goes up a canyon with several drop-offs as an obstacle course.

Multiple ATVs and dirt bikes go past during the day, but after a group of mountain bikers out of Moab, no one else comes by after mid-afternoon.

After considerable winding around, I leave the road and start down Elkhart Canyon. After a series of pour-offs we can climb down, we come to Elkhart Canyon Jump, a sheer drop 10 stories down, with no alternate route nearby because the steep canyon walls extend for miles.

Finally our map leads us to the correct place of descent, past huge boulders, and I arrive at the canyon floor. Four HDT hikers are camped there, MacGyver, Yeti, Redwood, and Heather, all traveling together.

Tomorrow will be a shorter day, as I reach the edge of Canyonlands National Park.
